Mitsubishi MG330-E, MG430-E and MG530-E: blade protection, brakes and recall scope

MG330-E blade protection releases at the circle drive

The original Mitsubishi E-Series brochure expressly describes the MG330-E blade-slip clutch. It releases when an unusually large external load reaches the blade. That protection concerns the implement drive; it is different from a transmission clutch or loss of traction at the tyres.

Establish which assembly is slipping before diagnosing a grading complaint.

Mitsubishi's separate blade-slip-clutch service manual explains the mechanism. Friction plates, mating plates and a disc spring transmit the circle-drive torque until the protective clutch slips. The manual also describes conversion from the earlier shear-pin mechanism by changing the specified flange and pin-roller arrangement.

A used grader can therefore need identification of the installed circle-drive protection as well as its model badge.

The clutch's plate-stack setting is model dependent. The service manual places MG330(E) and MG430(E) in its adjustment instructions, and its torque-setting section limits how much shim may be removed. Tightening away all protective movement is not the prescribed repair.

Mitsubishi warns that an excessive setting can damage implement components. Have the installed assembly checked against its applicable procedure; do not increase the setting simply to hide repeated slipping.

The E-Series air supply serves several different functions

The brochure describes air-actuated, oil-cooled service brakes on the rear wheels and a separate spring-applied, air-released parking and emergency brake. It also advertises an onboard supply for tyre inflation. Those descriptions do not make the inflation connection a brake-system test point.

A working air outlet alone does not establish that either brake circuit holds correctly.

Frame articulation and wheel lean are also distinct controls. The brochure connects articulation with crab steering and wheel lean with controlling side draft. A machine's ability to steer normally does not demonstrate correct wheel-lean or blade operation.

Check these movements separately when assessing the MG330-E arrangement described there.

A Japanese electrical recall includes MG330(E) and MG430(E)

Japan's transport ministry published Mitsubishi's recall filing on 8August2002. Its named models include MG330 and MG330(E), plus MG430 and MG430(E). MG530-E is not named in that notice.

The filing must not be expanded to every grader in this comparison.

The defect concerns the fusible link between the battery relay and starter switch. The ministry says sustained high electrical load could overheat its terminal and melt the link even without a circuit short, cutting power and potentially stopping the engine. The specified campaign remedy replaces the link with a higher-capacity plate fuse.

Confirm the particular machine's eligibility and repair record through its chassis identification; the notice is not an instruction to uprate an unrelated fuse.
