Mitsubishi MG460 VHP: power control, filtration and blade options

VHP is tied to the transmission's selected range

Mitsubishi's MG460/MG560 systems manual explains the variable-horsepower switch as part of the transmission control system. It selects between lower and higher engine output according to the engaged speed gear. That means a power figure needs an operating condition; maximum output is not a promise of the same power in every working gear.

The Chinese-language publication 99179-41102 describes a low/high change between the lower and upper gear groups. A later Hidromek MG460 catalogue instead assigns its high-output setting to a different forward-gear boundary and specifies lower output throughout reverse. The documents should remain separate.

A gear-by-gear power claim for a used Mitsubishi must follow its own serial-specific documentation, not a later machine's sales table.

The systems manual also distinguishes the transmission oil supply from the implement hydraulics. Its sump strainer catches larger debris, while a downstream paper filter handles finer particles. The regulator supplies the clutches; remaining flow serves lubrication through the cooler.

A bypass can maintain oil supply when the filter is restricted, but that flow is then unfiltered. Bypass operation is not evidence that the element remains serviceable.

Separate the hydraulic pressure figures

Hidromek's MG460 catalogue lists system pressure separately from safety pressure. Its hydraulic table also distinguishes pump delivery from circle-motor flow. Substituting the larger pressure or the whole pump figure into an attachment calculation would discard those circuit boundaries.

The later leaflet labels a relief-pressure figure, which is another reason to retain the exact document heading with the number.

Optional equipment changes the comparison too. The catalogue calls the blade-slip clutch an alternative to a conventional shear-pin mechanism. The clutch can slip under an excessive external blade load; its presence is a hardware question, not something established by seeing a rotating circle.

Hydraulic lock valves and the blade-tip cylinder also appear as options in that catalogue. Check what is fitted before assigning those functions to a particular grader.

Why Hidromek documentation appears beside Mitsubishi

Mitsubishi announced the transfer of its motor-grader business to Hidromek in November 2013. The agreement included design expertise, servicing operations and the Thai production company. The announcement promised transitional parts and technical support for a specified period; it did not promise indefinite availability for every old component.

An owner seeking a VHP switch, tandem-drive part or circle component should supply the machine identity and the component details, including the manufacturer shown on the fitted assembly.
