John Deere 310E–310K EP: controls, buckets and service units

310E loader control and backhoe linkage

The 310E's bucket linkage changes between power digging and truck loading without requiring the operator to leave the seat and move a pin. The optional extendable dipperstick uses an outer box with gripper teeth, with synthetic wear strips designed for lubrication and replacement. Check that extension and wear-strip condition separately from ordinary boom-pin wear.

The loader uses a single bucket cylinder: its piston end supplies breakout and its rod end gives faster dumping. The loader lever's transmission-disconnect switch lets engine power serve the hydraulics while positioning a load. That interaction is worth identifying before interpreting an apparent loss of drive during loader operation.

Hydraulic self-leveling and float are standard in the original brochure. A bucket-level indicator and adjustable return-to-dig switch serve different jobs; neither proves an aftermarket bucket has the original geometry. Deere's loader table distinguishes hinge-pin height from clearance beneath a tipped bucket.

A high hinge pin does not mean the bucket lip clears a truck side at that height.

310K EP is a distinct K-series configuration

The 310K EP's rated output is 52 kW, or 70 hp. Its Interim Tier 4 arrangement avoids exhaust aftertreatment, unlike the DPF-equipped configurations described elsewhere in the same K-series brochure. The family-wide emissions paragraph therefore cannot be applied to the EP without reading that exception.

Its tandem gear pump and unloader provide different backhoe and loader flow schedules. Backhoe relief pressure is also higher than loader relief pressure. Hydraulic performance needs the correct working end, not a single pump figure copied into every use.

The EP lacks the sealed-switch module advertised on higher K-series machines. Its suction fan also differs from the electronically controlled variable-rate fan listed for the ordinary 310K. Those are useful inspection and parts-ordering distinctions.

Wheelbase changes with the non-powered or MFWD front axle. Transmission refill is stated in liters and quarts, separate from hydraulic-system capacity. Read the installed axle and gearbox schedule before filling either compartment; a gallon label copied onto a liter value gives the wrong charge.
