John Deere 450G to 550J LT specifications

450G, 450H and 450J describe different drive systems

Deere's G-Series sheet separates torque-converter and direct-drive PowerShift machines. Their travel-speed schedules differ, and the naturally aspirated engine option is identified for the direct-drive 450G only. A model number and engine horsepower are therefore insufficient to identify the driveline or select the appropriate operating instructions.

The G-Series steering description uses wet steering clutches and wet-band brakes. Its hydraulic implement circuit is separately listed as open center. The blade-pump specification is not the transmission type, and a complaint about steering cannot be assigned to the implement pump just because both involve oil.

H-Series hydrostatic steering changes the diagnostic question

The H-Series publication describes a separate variable-displacement pump and motor combination for each track. Hydrostatic steering replaces the older steering clutches and brakes. A request for 450G steering-clutch parts therefore does not transfer to a 450H simply because both are small Deere dozers.

The 450H engine table also distinguishes the standard/LT options from the LGP arrangement. LGP concerns the undercarriage, not an LPG fuel system; the inherited comparison's LPG lettering should not be read as a fuel description.

Track width and blade width remain different dimensions. The corrected 450H rows below use the manufacturer's standard shoe configurations and retain the earlier implausibly narrow entries separately. Optional wider shoes and different blades need their own dimensions before a transport route is planned.

J-Series pedal response can be configured

On the J-Series, Total Machine Control lets the operator choose decelerator response, steering modulation and forward/reverse speed behavior. A pedal response that differs between two machines can therefore reflect a setting rather than worn components.

Deere distinguishes the pedal's hydrostatic deceleration detent from the position that applies the parking brakes. The specification also gives automatic parking-brake conditions, rather than treating neutral as the only brake command. Establish the current setup and follow the operating manual before a powered inspection.

The J brochure keeps LT and LGP operating weights tied to blade, shoe, fuel and operator conditions. It also offers a Maximum Life undercarriage with different track dimensions. Those configuration choices remain attached to their figures; a later publication does not silently replace every earlier historical rating in this comparison.
